Background

Elsie came to The Mangy Monkey’s Den with very little history attached to her. Her previous whereabouts and length of ownership could not be reliably established, so no claims about her original owner or age of the alleged attachment can be verified.

Because of the lack of provenance, the investigation was conducted without attempting to assign a predetermined identity to the doll.

Interestingly, the name Elsie emerged during the investigation rather than being selected beforehand.

Initial Observations

For approximately the first 20 minutes, Elsie produced very little unusual activity.

Baseline EMF readings remained normal. A REM Pod positioned approximately two feet from the doll remained quiet, and several direct questions received no obvious response.

Activity appeared to increase once the room became quiet and investigators stopped addressing the doll directly.

During this period, the REM Pod activated briefly on two separate occasions. No one was moving near the device at either time.

The activations could not be reproduced by repeating the same questions.

Spirit Box Session

A short spirit-box session produced several fragmented responses that were too unclear to document confidently.

Three responses, however, stood out.

When asked:

“Is there someone here with this doll?”

A short response resembling “yes” was heard.

Several minutes later:

“Do you have a name?”

A female-sounding response resembling “Elsie” was heard by two people present.

The name was asked again later in the session. No response followed.

Near the end of the session, the phrase “leave it” or possibly “leave me” was heard. Because the audio was not clear enough to distinguish between the two, it has been documented as inconclusive rather than presented as a confirmed response.

EMF / REM Pod Observations

EMF readings remained mostly at baseline throughout the investigation.

One brief increase occurred near the doll's left shoulder shortly after the name Elsie was spoken. The reading returned to baseline within several seconds and did not repeat.

The REM Pod produced three notable activations during the entire session.

The most interesting occurred while investigators were discussing something unrelated to the doll. The device activated for approximately three seconds and stopped immediately after someone acknowledged it.

Attempts to intentionally reproduce the activation were unsuccessful.

Pendulum Session

The pendulum produced more consistent responses than the electronic equipment.

After establishing directional responses, the following answers appeared repeatedly:

Are you connected to this doll? — Yes
Do you want the doll removed from here? — No
Are you comfortable around people? — Yes
Do you want people speaking to you constantly? — No

The final answer was tested several times and remained consistent.

This may explain why more activity occurred during quiet periods than during direct questioning.

Unstructured Observation

Elsie was left undisturbed for approximately 30 minutes with the REM Pod nearby.

During this period, one unexplained activation occurred.

No footsteps, voices, significant temperature changes, or visible movement of the doll were observed.

The doll remained exactly where she had been positioned.

No further activity occurred.

Investigation Summary

Elsie produced low-to-moderate anomalous activity, primarily consisting of intermittent REM Pod responses, one brief EMF fluctuation, possible spirit-box responses, and unusually consistent pendulum communication.

None of these observations independently prove paranormal activity, and several could potentially have ordinary environmental explanations.

What made the investigation interesting was the apparent pattern.

Elsie seemed considerably more responsive when she wasn't being actively questioned.

Rather than presenting as attention-seeking, the activity felt reserved and selective—as though whatever may be associated with the doll preferred simply being present.

No threatening language, aggressive responses, significant environmental disturbances, or indications of harmful intent were observed.

Elsie may be best suited for someone who appreciates a quieter alleged haunted object rather than one expected to perform on command.

Investigator’s Note

The doll did not seem interested in proving anything to us. Oddly enough, that was when the investigation became the most interesting.

No signs of aggression, intimidation, or harmful activity were observed during any investigation.

As with all paranormal investigations, we cannot prove that a spirit is attached to this doll or that the unexplained events documented around it were paranormal in origin. Electronic equipment can malfunction, environmental conditions can influence results, and subjective investigation methods have limitations.

This record represents only our observations and experiences during the time the doll was in our care.
