Baby quails, also known as chicks, have unique features: They hatch in less than a month and are ready to follow their parents right after hatching. At 2 months old, they reach maturity and are ready to mate. Unlike other birds, they are independent from the start, finding their own food and able to move around. They have a lifespan of 3 to 5 years in the wild and prefer warmer temperatures. Within the first day of hatching, these precocial birds leave the nest and can be spotted foraging with their mother. Older juvenile quails resemble adult females, but have striped sides.
